Several years ago I found myself drawing a figure that could only be a Harlequin. This greatly surprised me and from that point onwards I became fascinated by “Commedia dell'arte” or the “Italian Comedy.” It became for me a way of placing images out of time with their humanity to the fore. I can easily identify with the “Saltimbanques,” the street entertainers, whose only prop is a chair.
